THE 200

In 2013, singer-songwriter, Rossco Galloway, set himself the challenge of performing 200 consecutive songs from memory in one day. He's the only person I know who could have done this and the attempt inspired me to try the same.

In 2016, Rossco, myself and Tica Douglas (Queens, New York) took part in the first 200 charity event raising over £1500 for The Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity and the Douglas/Barrie family. We performed simultaneously througout the day, livestreaming our efforts so we could check in with each other and involve our audiences in each others' efforts.

In 2018, we launched The Return of The 200, involving musicians from across the globe, from New York to Sidney, Australia including Alistair McErlain, Mike Bennett and the Cook family. We rasied almost £3000 for cystic fibrosis charity, The Butterfly Trust.

In the midst of 2020 lockdown we launched The Rise of The 200. This event saw Toby Mottershead and my brother Dónal's band, TRÚ, as well as many of our previous musicians take part simultaneously and remotely to raise over £2500 for Irish and scottish mental health charities.

THE BIG STREAM

On Sunday 18th of February 2018, producer Garry Boyle and I headed into The Slate Room Studio to record, mix, master and release an album in one day.

The team livestreamed the entire process from start to finish and we gave away the album away for free. In exchange we asked for donations to a Justgiving page. The Big Stream aimed to raise awareness and funds for Maggie’s Edinburgh, a cancer support centre at the Western General.

Calum McIntyre(Drums), Dave Wallace(Guitar) and Craig MacFadyen(Bass) learned the tunes in one day and Garry Boyle mixed the entire thing the evening of its release. Thanks to the support of our audience, we raised almost £1500 for Maggies.

THE IMPROVATHON

THE IMPROVATHON is a charity event involving 24 hours non-stop improvised music, fully live streamed with live audience, performed by muiltple musicians of varying genres and experience levels, in rotation. The Pianodrome project and I wanted to bring together the community of Edinburgh musicians at a time where we’d been separated for so long, to raise funds and awareness for Social Bite homeless charity, and to challenge ourselves. The event was scheduled to take place in September 2022 but got pushed back due to scheduling issues.

We ran a 'mini-improvathon' at 2022's Hidden Door Festival feauturing
Tim Lane(Drums), Allan Ferguson(Bass) and Harry Higgs(Guitar). We weren't a band, we hadn't played music together as a band, we had no rehearsal, we prepared nothing, we made it up on the day and improvsied for 2 hours non-stop. Watch this space for more news on THE IMPROVATHON!
