The band have a had a busy year and are set for more of the same. Here’s what’s going on in the world of Edinburgh Trad Jazz:
Nicole Smit joined forces with TJB in 2023 to create and launch the Travelling Tent Show. We’ve been doing some modest touring, exploring how the show translates into various theatres of different sizes and audience formats. We’re set for more exciting concerts in 2024. Watch this space...
Tenement Jazz Band has also had the opportunity to develop its very first show for kids. We debuted the show at 2023’s Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival Winter Weekend. Check out TJB’s Cabinet of Wonders coming again soon... Bring the bairns!
Greyfriar's Society Orchestra, a raucous little offshoot of TJB, are scheduled for our next outing 8th March at The Edinuburgh Jazz & Jive Club at Heriot’s Rugby Club. It’s always a total pleasure to play for such talented and enthusiastic swing and lindy hop dancers. Try and make it along if you can!
Once a month on the 3rd Thursday, TJB still moonlight as The Argyle Rhythm Aces at the Argyle Cellar Bar in Marchmont. I love this venue because of its intimate and authentic vibe, and because of the gorgeous Challen Pianola that the band procured from the Pianodrome project - real acoustic instruments playing real acoustic jazz. Check it out if you can!
